Gluten Allergy – Am I Allergic to Gluten? Here’s what to look out for.

I have a close family member who is Gluten Intolerant, so I know many of the first signs to look out for. At the time, many doctors weren’t quite sure if it was an Intolerance to Gluten or something else, and this may happen to you also. I will list the most common symptoms, with a short description of why, to help you understand whats happening to your body.

1. Diarrhea, and some cases severe diarrhea is one of the first things to look out for. You may also find that you have a fatty stools too. The reason for this is your body is not able to digest the gluten properly, and therefore rejects it, giving you diarrhea and sometimes stomach pains and cramps.

2. Weight loss and weight gain. The later is not always associated commonly with Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease but in some cases, some people will see weight gain and not loss. Weight loss is very common, and can almost happen overnight. I mentioned above about the body rejecting gluten foods, but this may also mean your body is not taking in the daily nutrients it needs to work in a healthy way, resulting in weight loss.

3. Fatigue and Exhaustion. This is one of the first signs to take note of, but this can also be down to Chronic Fatigue and not a Gluten Allergy. As you can see, many of these are linked together. Not eating correctly can result in weight loss, diarrhea and fatigue because you body is not receiving healthy food full of vitamins and minerals.

Depression, Aching Joints, Eczema, Headaches and Irritability. Iron deficiency is also something to look out for, and this can cause low energy levels.
